How to Read Sports Betting Odds
Before placing any bet, it helps to understand the four odds formats commonly encountered by Malaysian players. Below is a brief explanation and a simple example for each format.
Malay Odds
The most common format in Malaysia. Positive odds represent profit per unit staked; negative odds show the amount you need to bet to win one unit.
Team A vs Team B. Bet RM10.
Win → profit RM7.50 + stake RM10 = RM17.50
Bet RM10. Win → profit RM10/0.75 = RM13.33
Hong Kong Odds
Represents your net profit for every one unit staked. Simple to calculate — multiply the odds by your stake amount to get the profit.
Team A vs Team B. Bet RM10.
Win → profit RM10 × 1.80 = RM18.00
Total received: RM10 + RM18 = RM28.00
Indonesian Odds
Similar to Malay Odds but multiplied by 100. Positive shows profit per RM100; negative shows the cost to win RM100.
Team A vs Team B. Bet RM10.
Win → profit RM10 × (1.50/100) × 100 = RM15.00
Total received: RM25.00
Decimal Odds (European)
The easiest to calculate. Multiply the odds directly by your stake to get the full return (including stake). The higher the number, the greater the potential return.
Team A vs Team B. Bet RM10.
Win → RM10 × 2.50 = RM25.00
(net profit: RM15.00)
Always bet within your means — set a limit before you play and do not chase losses.
